The global certification system for responsibly sourced ready-mixed and precast concrete.
BQV is continuously building on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targeting among others, cement and concrete sustainability. To this regard, Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) is a perfect partner to promote and demonstrate concrete as a sustainable building material.
Since the beginning of September 2024, BQV has been approved as the Certification Body in Greece to assess and deliver the global certification system for responsibly sourced ready-mixed and precast concrete of the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC).
Concrete is the world’s most widely used building material. It is without any doubt the most durable material, the Pantheon in Rome or the Colosseum are examples of its solidity.
By creating a certification system for responsibly sourced concrete, the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) promotes and demonstrates concrete as a sustainable building material to enable informed decision in construction.
CSC and BQV common vision is, to build a sustainable, safe, durable and comfortable future.
The certification includes the complete concrete supply chain. cement producers, aggregates suppliers and concrete manufacturers.
The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) is an international association initiated by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) together with the cement and concrete industry. As of January 1st, 2019, the CSI was transferred to the new organization Global Cement & Concrete Association (GCCA). With its membership, the GCCA supports the goals of the CSC.
The CSC has developed its own certification system to promote the transparency of sustainable processes in the cement and concrete industry. With the help of this certification system, an insight into the operational business in the areas of economy, ecology and social affairs is made possible. Not only the raw materials and their origin are assessed, but also the manufacturing process of the concrete and its effects on the social and ecological environment.
The CSC pursues the goal of further increasing the transparency of sustainable action within the concrete industry. In the future, the sustainability of concrete as a building material should be emphasized even more.
The auditing and certification itself is carried out by certification bodies (BQV) that is independent of the CSC. The costs for auditing by the certification service provider depend on a number of factors. The tasks of the BQV include, for example, checking the uploaded proof of conformity, on-site inspections in selected plants and issuing the certificates. The review takes place on the same online platform (toolbox).
Who is the target group of this certification system?
Potential beneficiaries of the CSC certification scheme are concrete manufacturers, cement manufacturers and aggregate manufacturers. The system rewards companies that are committed to sustainable management.
